Sodium
What is sodium?
Sodium is required to maintain extracelluar volume and plasma osmolarity.

What happens if I have a deficiency in sodium?
The body is able to survive with very little sodium intake, by reducing losses of sodium in urine and sweat. Dramatically insufficient sodium intake can lead to hyponatremia and death.

What happens if I have excess sodium?
Sodium consumption is one of several dietary factors that contribute to hypertension (high blood pressure). It can also cause dehydration, hardening of the arteries and several other conditions.
